Who was Paul Pender?

Paul Pender, the winemaker at Tawse Winery near Niagara, is said to have died. On February 4, 2022, Paul’s death was confirmed on social media.

However, the exact cause of his death is still unknown.

Paul was Tawse Winery’s chief winemaker for 15 years and produced some of the best wines in Canada. Under Paul Pender’s leadership, Tawse Winery reached many peaks and received multiple awards for wine excellence.

Paul Pender Cause of Death

Moray Tawse, owner of Tawse Winery and Redstone Winery in Niagara, revealed the untimely and tragic death of winemaker Paul Pender. However, the reason for his death was unknown.

“We regret to inform you of the passing of our colleague and friend Paul Pender, who passed away on February 4, 2022, with tremendous sadness and a heavy heart.” Paul passed away unexpectedly and tragically. More than words can explain how much all of us will miss him. He was not only our manager but also a good friend,” the company said in a statement posted on social media.

“In 2005, Paul Pender joined the Tawse team as winemaker and in 2006 he was promoted to chief winemaker.” Tawse achieved Ecocert organic and Demeter biodynamic certifications under his guidance and was named Canadian Winery of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016. In 2011, he was named Winemaker of the Year at the Ontario Wine Awards.”

“Paul, a former carpenter, was in the second graduating class of Niagara College’s Winery and Viticulture program. He followed a “hands-off as much as possible” mentality and believed that every outstanding wine begins in the vineyard.

Retail stores and the Tawse & Redstone restaurant will be closed until Wednesday of next week.
