Paul Moore Age and Details
Paul Moore, 85, committed the crimes between 1977 and 1996 at various locations in Ayrshire.
He was jailed for nine years following a BBC investigation, but appellate judges reduced his sentence to eight years.
Moore’s crime lasted more than 20 years and one of his victims was only five years old.
A spokesman for the Diocese of Galloway said: “Bishop Nolan will pray for the rest of Paul Moore’s soul and for the peace of those who have suffered from his actions.”
In November 2019, Moore was overruled by the Pope. This meant that he could no longer call himself “father” or offer spiritual care.
The BBC investigation found that Moore admitted to sexually abusing more than one child years ago in 1996 and this was initially covered up by the bishop.
The then bishop of Galloway, Maurice Taylor, did not contact authorities until eight months later about the priest’s confession. Instead, he sent him to a treatment center in Toronto.
Bishop Taylor removed Moore from his neighborhood of Prestwick, Ayrshire and later sent him to Fort Augustus Abbey in the Highlands, which was ruled by Benedictine monks.
It wasn’t until the victims made themselves known, according to BBC documentation, that the criminal case was filed.
