Who is Rep Park Cannon?
Park Cannon is one of the members of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 58 and is a member of the Democratic Party. He grew up on a military base in Albany, Georgia. He started studying at Chapman University but dropped out of college due to racism. Eventually he joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated with a BA in linguistics.
The Georgia State Representative also specialized in gender and women’s studies. The African American representative identifies himself as queer.

Rep. Park Cannon arrested
Police reportedly arrested Cannon on Thursday, March 25, after he knocked on Governor Brian Kemp’s door, interrupting his live-streamed announcement that he had signed into law an election bill. He was with several other protesters when he knocked on Kemp’s office door.
He called for the public to be allowed to witness the announcement of the signing of the bill. The broad legislation requires identification for absentee ballots, limits mailboxes, and changes early voting hours. This is about Cannon’s life and what really happened.

Several videos of her arrest went viral on social media where officers can be seen forcibly removing Cannon, a Democrat from Atlanta who is a black woman, dragging her through the Georgia State Capitol and shoving her into a police car. A woman who was with Cannon said that she was not disrespectful.
“She knew that he was signing a bill that would affect all Georgians, why would she hide behind closed doors? This is not a monarchy, ”said Tamara Stevens.
Cannon is known for taking a stand when it comes to Georgia voting rights. She was previously involved in a separate dispute with a Capitol police officer during a protest over election bills. Cannon walked over to an officer’s megaphone and then another officer took her arm to push her away.

Political strategist Antwon Stephens tweeted: “GA State Patrol just arrested and slammed GA State Representative Park Cannon for peacefully protesting the worst voter suppression laws passed since the Jim Crow days. The Georgia Republican Party will stop at nothing to preserve a dying party in a state that is rapidly turning deep blue. ”
Representative Anna V Eskamani tweeted: “Rep. Park Cannon, a fierce fighter from Georgia, was arrested for knocking on @ GovKemp’s door when he was signing a ballot restrictions bill. She had ALL THE RIGHT to be there and she should not be arrested for defending the right to vote and for knocking on a public door! ”
