Omar Rekik Wiki
Omar Rekik Biography
Rekik trained with the club’s Under 23s on Wednesday at their London Colney base before Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted the deal would be announced “very soon”.
And the Gunners confirmed the expected news on Thursday afternoon, announcing that the 19-year-old, who actually moved to London three weeks ago, will initially join the Under 23 squad after signing his professional contract.
Rekik, who is a ball playing centre back, has joined from Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin
Before moving to Hertha Berlin, the defender had spent time in Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille.
Arsenal had reached an agreement with Hertha Berlin to sign Rekik for £ 900,000 on the last day of the summer transfer window. However, the change was not signed in time, forcing both clubs to wait until January.
As a result, the fare for the 19-year-old has been reduced to around £ 540,000 due to the delay, according to The Metro.
And Arteta has since revealed his enthusiasm for taking over the central youth for the future.
When asked about the imminent transfer, Arteta said: ‘He’s a young talent we’ve been following for a while and we think he has a really bright future. But we’ll give more details when we can. ‘
Rekik has yet to appear as a senior for a club, as he only represented Hertha Berlin at the youth level.
However, the 19-year-old has been exposed to the game day experience, having entered the bench three times.
Per Mertesacker, Arsenal’s current academy coach, is said to have played a key role in reaching the deal between the Gunners and Rekik.
