Olivia Billington and Alex Best charged with felony concealment of death after their infant son was buried in a shallow grave in North Carolina

A young North Carolina couple have been accused of hiding the death of their young son, who was born in a dormitory at High Point University and was later buried in a shallow grave in his father’s home.

The High Point Police Department’s special victims unit learned of the baby’s secret burial in Iredell County last month.wikipedia

Investigation

An investigation found that on Sept. 4, High Point University student Olivia Billington, 21, gave birth to a baby on campus with her boyfriend, Alex Best, 19.

Police said neither Billington nor Best sought medical treatment for their son and the newborn died.

On September 6, Best brought her baby’s body to her home in Iredell County and buried it in a shallow grave on Tomlin Mill Road in Statesville.

The next day, investigators acting on a lead found the baby’s body wrapped in blankets inside a wooden box, WXII12 reported.

An autopsy was performed, but the findings were inconclusive, police said.

Arrested and Charged

Best was arrested Sept. 15 and charged with a felony for concealing or failing to report the death of a child. He is being held in the Iredell County Jail on a $ 10,000 bond.

Billington turned herself in to the police on October 1 and was charged with a felony concealment of death. She is due to return to court in November.

Police said they do not expect to press additional charges against the couple in connection with the death of her son.

Billington’s LinkedIn profile reveals that she had enrolled at High Point University in 2018 to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
