An investigation found that on Sept. 4, High Point University student Olivia Billington, 21, gave birth to a baby on campus with her boyfriend, Alex Best, 19.
Police said neither Billington nor Best sought medical treatment for their son and the newborn died.
On September 6, Best brought her baby’s body to her home in Iredell County and buried it in a shallow grave on Tomlin Mill Road in Statesville.
The next day, investigators acting on a lead found the baby’s body wrapped in blankets inside a wooden box, WXII12 reported.
An autopsy was performed, but the findings were inconclusive, police said.
