Who was Nicole Hurst ?
Nicole Hurst, a Houston singer known for her work with multiple superstars, died after a years-long battle with breast cancer. She worked as a backup vocalist with Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson, among others. Hurst was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 while she was preparing for a tour with Timberlake and Jay-Z.
“I think one of my first thoughts was, am I going to die?” she told ABC13’s Samica Knight in 2015. “I had four months of chemotherapy followed by my surgery where I had a mastectomy.” You can view Knight’s 2015 report on Hurst in the video player above. During treatment, her cancer doubled the size of hers and it appeared that the treatment was not working at the time. However, she was in remission two years later.

Hurst, who died at age 39, was part of her musical act “Tennessee Kids.”
“Some things feel so unfair and we will never understand why they happen,” the Palmer star continued. “What I do know is that we were lucky enough to laugh with her, travel with her and experience her contagious smile and her love for a life full of music.”
She ended her tribute with a message to the late singer: “Nicole, it is not enough to say that I am going to miss you so much. Thank you for your light. I will do my best to carry that with me. I love you, my sister. Forever a family and a forever TN Kid. 💔 ”

In 2013 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 31 in 2013. “I was diagnosed with stage 2 triple positive breast cancer,” former Kelly Clarkson backing vocalist explained to ABC13 in Houston in October 2015. “I think one of my first thoughts was, am I going to die? ”
The Houston native told the outlet about her aggressive cancer at the time. “I had four months of chemotherapy followed by my surgery where I had a mastectomy. Even while receiving chemotherapy, my tumor doubled the size of hers. ”

From there, her cancer escalated to Stage 3 and she kept fighting. Two years later, she told the news outlet that she was in remission.
Four years later, Hurst opened up about her battle with her cancer in an August 2019 Instagram post after she learned of a new diagnosis earlier that year. Along with a series of photos from his hospital stay, he captioned it: “If you can’t know by now, I’m a private person. And I’ve been wanting to say something for months, but I could never find the right words. These pictures are not setbacks of 2014, but this year, literally, the second day of January, when my world turned upside down again. ”
He continued in the post at the time: “What was discovered was not a recurrence of cancer, but rather a breast cancer that somehow made its way into my brain, forcing me to pull the emergency brake on my life and immediately sent me to full brain radiation. treatment to destroy everything that was trying to destroy me. … My battle is not over yet, and I don’t know what the future holds … really none of us do.
