Myles Cosgrove Wiki

                          Myles Cosgrove  Biography

Two Louisville police officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor have been fired, nearly ten months after the deadly raid that sparked protests against racial injustice and police brutality across the country.

Detective Joshua Jaynes – who obtained the controversial no-knock search warrant for Taylor’s home – and Detective Myles Cosgrove – who fired the fatal bullet, were terminated on Tuesday, The Courier Journal reported.

It comes days after the two officers received pre-termination letters stating they had violated department procedures during the botched drug investigation on March 13.

Investigation Report

An investigation by the department’s Professional Standards Unit found that Jaynes violated procedures for preparing a search warrant and veracity, said his attorney Thomas Clay.

No officer faces charges in connection with Taylor’s murder. One of the officers involved, Brett Hankison, faces a charge of unjustified danger for recklessly shooting at a neighboring apartment. He pleaded not guilty and has since been fired.

Clay told the publication last week that they would attempt to challenge the decision at a pre-determination hearing.

“Jaynes did nothing wrong,” he said.

Jaynes was not present during the shooting at Taylor’s Louisville apartment. About 12 hours earlier, he obtained a court order with a “no hit” clause from a judge.

Louisville Acting Police Chief Yvette Gentry wrote: “These are extreme violations of our policies, putting others in danger.

Your actions have discredited you and the department. Her conduct has seriously damaged the image our department has established within our community. ‘

Officers were serving a narcotics order on March 13 when Taylor was shot, but no drugs or cash were found in his home.

Cosgrove shot Taylor at least three times, killing her, according to an FBI ballistics analysis. She was the second person to enter her home and fired 16 rounds down the hall.

Taylor was an emergency medical worker who had settled in for the night when the police came through her door.

Former officer Brett Hankison was charged by a grand jury with senseless endangerment, a low-level crime, for shooting into an adjacent apartment where people were present.

Cosgrove and Officer John Mattingly who shot Taylor, based on ballistic evidence, were not indicted by the grand jury.

Mattingly was shot by Taylor’s boyfriend during the raid and returned fire. Taylor’s boyfriend said he thought an intruder was breaking into his apartment.

After the grand jury’s decision, three jurors came forward to reveal that they believe the investigation was incomplete.

One woman, who came forward last month, spoke anonymously about the September proceedings, joining two others who said the 12-member panel was not given the option to consider charges against officers who shot and killed women. Taylor in March.

The woman, in her first published interview, said that when the trial ended with three counts of senseless endangering an agent, she felt like she was saying “no, that’s not the end.”
