Who was Mike Hickmon ?

A MANHUNT has begun for Yaqub Talib, brother of former NFL star Aqib Talib, as he is a wanted suspect for a fatal shooting that occurred during a youth football game in Dallas.

A U-9 soccer game turned tragic after the coach of one of the teams was shot to death following an argument between parents at the end of the game in Lancaster, Texas.

The brother of former NFL star Aqib Talib, Yaqub Talib, 39, is now wanted on murder charges after he was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting at a kid’s football game on Saturday night.

Friends and family identified the slain official as Mike Hickmon, who coached the Dragon Elite Academy team. Hickmon is believed to have been shot three times in front of his nine-year-old son who was on one of the teams.

Shooting

The Lancaster Police Department says Talib was involved in a physical altercation with umpires on the field before opening fire at Lancaster Community Park in southeast Dallas County.

Video of the shooting shows a man wearing a black hoodie and hat pulling out a gun and shooting.

In chaotic footage shot from the side of the field, parents can be heard yelling and arguing with each other, while some talk to match officials late in the game before a fight breaks out on the turf.

Within seconds, the fight grew larger as more people ran to join or split the group.

Family

Frantic parents could then be seen making 911 calls on their cell phones as children who witnessed the murder were quickly whisked away.

‘They were upset about losing. The guy came to the sideline and said he was going to hit the referee, so the referee called the game,” coach Heith Mayes told Fox 4.

‘It’s just not that important. It is not. It’s not that serious,” added coach Kerry Lewis. “No one should come to a 9-year-old game and fear for their life or maybe my son will get shot while he’s playing football. This has to stop.

His son witnessed him being shot and killed in the field. These children are innocent. They shouldn’t have to witness what they witnessed,” Lewis said.

“He was a genuine person, he was a loving person, he was a father first.” Although the police are looking for Yaqub, his brother Aqib, a soccer player, was also at the match when the murder occurred.

‘Aqib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and he is greatly distressed and devastated by this terrible loss of life. He wants to convey his condolences to the victim’s family and everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy,’ his attorney told TMZ.

One parent paid tribute to Hickmon, 43, on Facebook: “As many may have already heard, Mike Hickmon, parent, former athlete, coach, mentor, a pillar of our youth soccer community, and a member of Dragon Elite Academy coaching. family lost his life yesterday in a YOUTH FOOTBALL MATCH.

“Even though the older DEA teams didn’t attend this event, it still shocked us all and really made us re-evaluate EVERYTHING,” Courtney Jackson wrote.

‘This is something no coach, parent or player should have to prepare for while he is involved in youth sports. I welcome suggestions on how we can help our 9u players along with Mikes family recover from witnessing and experiencing something so traumatic at such a young age.”

Career

Aqib was not named by Lancaster Police as a person of interest.

He retired in 2020 after nearly 15 years in the league, having won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos.

During his career he also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams and currently works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports.
