“What the specialized police are concentrating on now is reaching a peaceful resolution of the situation,” Ackery said at the conference.
‘The specialized police are doing their best to interact with the person in the house.
“We are prepared to deal with the situation for as long as it takes to ensure the safety of the community, the people inside that house and, of course, our officers.”
A woman and a child as young as five are being held hostage, according to 7News.

Inspector Ackery said police are speaking with the gunman, but he did not want to comment on his gun or the other occupants inside the house so as not to aggravate the situation.
“You have to understand that it is an ongoing issue, a dynamic and fluid situation, so it is very difficult for me and it is not appropriate for me to comment further on that,” he said.
“I have to let the specialist control his work and that is all I am willing to say at this point.”

When asked if detectives visited the house before the siege, he said: “The police had assisted the address.”
“Contrary to some beliefs, the incident did not start at the Banoon train station,” he said.
“There are several police officers here, including tactical detectives and crime squads and other specialized police.”
Queensland Police said: “Residents within the exclusion zone are urged to follow the advice of emergency services on the ground.
“The public is advised to avoid the area.”
Trains running along the Beenleigh Line initially skipped the nearby Banoon Station, but have now resumed normally.
