Michael Barton, brother of soccer player Joey Barton, was 17 when he competed with Anthony, 18, and attacked him in the park in 2005.

The Conditions Board documents a decision describing Barton during his crime as an antisocial lifestyle fueled by alcohol and drugs.
They said that he had shown “false loyalty” to like-minded people, that he had displayed “racist attitudes” and that he tolerated violence.
According to the evidence presented at the hearing, Barton’s initial behind-the-scenes behavior had been mediocre, but he had matured over the past decade and attended courses on victim awareness and substance abuse at the age of 32.
The document read: “Having taken into account the circumstances of the crime and the progress of the arrest, as well as the benefits and risks that Mr. Barton poses to the opening conditions, the jury recommended that it continue in this way.” .
Now it is up to the Minister of Justice to decide whether to accept the Council’s recommendation.
A parole spokesperson said: “We will only make a recommendation for open conditions if the parole board is satisfied that the risk to the public is small enough to be handled in an open prison.” .
“This was said by everyone who testified at the hearing.”
Barton, who was sentenced to murder for at least 17 years in prison, could be paroled in less than two years from the end of his minimum sentence.
