New Hampshire police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman that Mercedes Tremblay and her two-year-old son, Mason Tremblay, found in their Manchester apartment.

According to WMUR, Mercedes Tremblay (25) and her Mason Tremblay (2) were found dead in the apartment on Monday afternoon. Police told the outlet that the woman was shot in the head, but investigators have not yet established how she died and it is not yet known how the child died.

Attorney General Erin Fitzgerald told the news channel authorities that they are actively investigating the deaths and awaiting the results of the autopsy.

“It is not uncommon that a more thorough investigation by police and forensic pathologists is sometimes required to identify the cause and type of death, and this is just one of those cases,” Fitzgerald said.
