Who is Melissa Wildgen Rootes ?
Jamey Rootes, a longtime former president of the Houston Texans, has died, his wife said Monday night.
In a Facebook post, Melissa Wildgen Rootes said her husband passed away on Sunday after “a battle with mental health issues.”
“Jamey was best known for his devotion to his family and friends, but he was also a former president of the Houston Texans and retired in 2021,” she wrote.
Husband
Rootes was a fixture in Houston sports as president of the Texans for two decades. Rootes ran business operations as the right-hand man of team founder Bob McNair.
He was known for his upbeat approach and enthusiasm for the Texans, the organized college bowl game at NRG Stadium, and the city of Houston in general. Rootes left the organization in February of last year, briefly joining the Houston Dynamo in a leadership position.
After leaving the football franchise, Rootes taught at Sam Houston and last week joined the Rice faculty to teach there.
He was 55 years old.

“Our family is heartbroken to confirm that after a battle with mental health issues, Jamey Rootes passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022,” the post begins.
“Jamey was a dedicated Houstonian who loved his city and touched so many lives through his professional, academic and philanthropic work.”

The Texans organization released a statement Monday night on the passing of its former leader, reflecting his long ties to the city and the NFL team.
“We are heartbroken to learn that former Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes has passed away. For two decades, Jamey led our business operations with an unwavering commitment to Houston and the Houston Texans. We are grateful for his steadfast leadership and immeasurable contributions to our Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Jamey’s wife, Melissa, and their two children during this extremely difficult time,” Janice, Cal and Hannah McNair said in a statement.
