Who was Maurice Reggie Shepperson?

A fully vaccinated Southwest Airlines flight attendant died of COVID-19 nearly two months after testing positive on a work trip to Hawaii.

Maurice ‘Reggie’ Shepperson, 36, who lived in Las Vegas, died at Henderson Hospital on Tuesday after spending weeks on a ventilator.

He checked into the hospital on July 7, weeks after testing positive after his trip to Hawaii in early June.

Shepperson’s mother said her son had taken all precautions against the virus, including getting fully vaccinated, wearing a mask, washing hands frequently and disinfecting surfaces.

He is among a very small fraction of Americans who have died after suffering ‘breakthrough’ coronavirus infections after vaccination.Wikipedia

How old was Maurice ‘Reggie’ Shepperson?

He was 36 year old.

Family statement

The flight attendant, who was fully vaccinated, contracted the virus after returning home and made his way to Henderson Hospital in Las Vegas on July 7.

He took her mother Dawn on one of her last work trips to Hawaii before contracting the virus.

Both were tested repeatedly before leaving for the sunny island.

She wrote in a Facebook post about the trip: “I took Mommy on my work trip to Hawaii. I’ll be back to bring her tomorrow hahaha, I love this woman with all my heart.”

Her son became ill after returning home and immediately began to quarantine him.

He would later test positive for COVID-19. His mother did not contract the virus.

Causes of death

His co-workers called Shepperson a ‘tall traveler’ and he was known to take advantage of his perks and took many business trips, including the trip to Hawaii where he took his mother

Dawn, who left food on her son’s door, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that her son was in a lot of pain and couldn’t get up.

On July 7, Shepperson went to the emergency room with respiratory problems.

He would spend the next several weeks in the hospital on a ventilator before dying from the virus.

Southwest spokesperson Brandy King confirmed Shepperon’s death, but the company declined to say anything else regarding the family.

Dawn said Southwest Airlines reached out to her after her son’s death, as well as her best friend and flight partner, Marcia Hildreth, to take her to Las Vegas from a work trip.

Hildreth has also started a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of funeral expenses. She has currently raised $ 9,386 so far.

Clark County currently has more than 11,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 300,000 cases in the state.

Although COVID-19 vaccines do not offer 100 percent protection against the virus, they are still very effective. There are cases of outbreaks with the Delta variant, however, those who are fully vaccinated are less likely to become seriously ill or die from the virus, according to the CDC.
