Police identified a 30-year-old man as the suspect in a fatal shooting during Saturday’s protests in downtown Denver.
Matthew Dolloff remained in jail Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the shooting, jail records show. Dolloff was working as a private security guard for Denver’s 9News television station when the shooting occurred, the television station said. Denver police arrested Dolloff on suspicion of shooting and killing a man after a clash at protests downtown. The man who died has not been publicly identified by authorities.
Photos from the incident show the man slapping Dolloff and using pepper spray. Dolloff then shot the man, according to the photos. Police detained Dolloff at the scene.
The rally, organized by a “Patriot Muster” group, ended on Saturday afternoon. When trouble arose, his camouflaged guards evacuated the area near the Denver Art Museum.

After a few minutes, the police came in and ordered a man to put down his gun. He was later identified as a security guard by Denver police. Denver television channel KUSA reported that Matthew Doloff, 30, was a contractor for them.

Doloff heard his first tip on Sunday morning. The judge announced that the arrest statement would be sealed and that the defendant would be arrested for first degree murder without any guarantees.

The video shows a discussion that took place just before the chemical agent was dispersed. It ends with the shot.
With the man’s arm in the air, he held the gun in hand and fired at him from a distance.
The man who was shot was taken to a hospital where he was reported dead. Those who attended the rally described him as a man attending the Patriot Muster rally.
The demonstration was peaceful until the shooting. The protesters who defined themselves as anti-fascists, communists and pro-Black Life Matters kept their distance.
The Denver police had a strong presence during the incident.
“Our main objective is to alleviate the situation. We cannot have more violence in relation to what is happening today, ”said Division Chief Joe Montoya.
It seems that violence has a direct connection with one side opening fire on the other.
KUSA said one of its producers was detained and released after it was discovered that he was not involved in the shooting.
The security guard is still in custody.
