Who is Mate Perich?

A brutal wife killer will be released from prison after nearly 30 years and three more infamous killers could follow in a few months when their sentences expire and they apply for parole.

Mate Perich shot his wife Danica four times as she sat in their car in the north Perth suburb of Dianella in 1995.

The banana farmer, now in his 70s, was jailed for a minimum of 16 years for the murder, which followed years of abuse.

Perich used an unlicensed rifle he brought from his Carnarvon plantation, about a four-hour drive from where he killed his long-suffering wife.

In March, the convicted murderer was released after being placed on two years’ probation, following 27 years in a cell, the West Australian reports.Perich is due to be deported back to his home country of Croatia at taxpayer expense after spending time in immigration detention.

Alen said the convicted murderer would be able to access the money he passively obtained from the properties, which were now worth $1 million.

Perich will be forced to pay a Commonwealth debt notice if he attempts to enter Australia or if he applies for a visa.

His release comes as three other notorious killers will be considered for parole in just a few weeks.

A spokesman for the attorney general, John Quigley, told the West Australian that he could only consider a parole recommendation for a life prisoner if the Prisoner Review Board recommended it.

Parole is a privilege, not a right. Upon becoming eligible for parole, an inmate is not automatically recommended for a parole order,’ the spokesperson said.

The board reviews each case on its merits.
