Who is Maryia Hussain?

Maryia Hussain, 26, first tested positive for the virus in December 2020, then again in November last year, and then for the third time last Monday.

She believed that the hat-trick of infections was completed by contracting the highly transmissible but less severe Omicron variant.

Maryia, from Bedfordshire, told the Mail Online: “I’ve been stuck twice and when I got it for the second time last year I just thought ‘Why me?’

‘And then I was about to book my backup jab after recovering from that when I caught him again.

Family

None of my family and friends can believe that I have tested positive three times. It seems so unlucky.

While many people have contracted the virus twice, including Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer, a triple infection is still thought to be extremely rare.

Maryia first contracted the virus in December 2020 when the Delta variant was spreading across the country and businesses and schools were closed.
In addition to losing her sense of taste and smell, Maryia was left breathless and bedridden for 10 days.

She isolated herself at home with her parents, who also contracted the virus at the same time. Fortunately, she did not need hospital treatment.

She said: ‘The first time she was really mean. She started out with a sore throat, chills, and a continuous cough. I felt bad and had to use a vaporizer to breathe easier. She was quite sick and even after testing negative, she was too weak to go back to work due to Long Covid.

Maryia Hussain First Covid Test

Almost a year after the first bout of Covid, Maryia tested positive again in November 2021

Last Monday she suddenly started vomiting and had abdominal pain.

A friend’s father who was a GP suggested that she get a PCR test as the symptoms were consistent with the Omicron variant.

Although more transmissible, the symptoms of it have been shown to be less severe than the Delta variant and others during the pandemic.

She said: ‘I just couldn’t believe it when she tested positive. I must be the unluckiest woman in Britain.

‘Fortunately, the symptoms were not as bad as the previous two and I am improving. It is so annoying that very few of my friends have had it.

She was planning to book a booster shot after her second fight was completed to protect her from future infections, but she contracted Covid a third time before she could do so. She now she wants a third jab as soon as she gets back up again.

“I don’t know if she will keep me from getting coronavirus a fourth time, but anything that keeps me from feeling bad is going to be good.”

Data released in late December suggested that some 69 people nationally out of 116,000 Omicron cases recorded between November 1 and December 18 had other variants of Covid twice before.
