Who was Martyn Forrest?
Bury’s former captain, Martyn Forrest, has died aged 43, the Shakers confirmed.
The former midfielder collapsed during a match 14 years ago and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Forrest has undergone a series of treatments since the incident occurred in 2008 during a match in Radcliffe Borough.
Paying tribute to Forrest, his wife Lisa said: “It is with the deepest sadness that I write this message to inform you that Martyn has passed away.
“He was an amazing husband and a fantastic father. You will be sorely missed.
“Not many people know that when Martyn collapsed on the Radcliffe Borough pitch in 2008, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
After undergoing brain surgery 3 times, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, we received the unfortunate news in March 2022 that the treatment was no longer working.
“After a few months of suffering, he is now in his resting place where he can look at her two sons and watch them grow into incredible men.
“I can’t tell you how much her fun-loving personality will be missed by so many people. Rest in peace my wonderful husband.”
We are saddened to hear the news of the passing of former Captain Martyn Forrest.
“He showed bravery on and off the field and will be fondly remembered. We send our thoughts to his friends and family.”
Fans also paid tribute to Forrest, writing: “An absolute legend and friend. The life and soul of every party. When I think of you, I smile. You will be sadly missed. Keep them laughing, mate.”
A second wrote: “A proper good lad. He will certainly be greatly missed. He left his mark on many people with memories they will never forget. Thinking of his family at this time.”
Another added: “It’s all been said everywhere already but a great human being who will be sorely missed by my entire family. So many fun memories from the last 25 years.”
