Mariellen Hufnagel Biography
Mariellen Hufnagel is best known for being the wife of skate legend Keith Hufnagel, who died earlier this week, USA Skateboarding confirmed on September 24. She was 46 years old.
On Mother’s Day, May 10, Hufnagel posted a photo of her wife and children with the caption ”
Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife @mariellen_olson Thank you for being an amazing mom and taking care of us all ❤️ ”
For her birthday in April, Hufnagel joked about having to celebrate during the coronavirus pandemic. She wrote: “Thank you for taking care of our family during these crazy times when the world has gone crazy. I love you. Thanks for getting all the TP at Costco too. ”
Hufnagel founded Huf in 2002
Hufnagel founded Huf in 2002, opening the brand’s first store in San Francisco after moving to the West Coast from New York. She told Complex in 2012 that the brand’s name “was born on the streets.”
“The name HUF stuck with me as a kind of nickname among my friends, so once I became a professional I started using it on products and clothes and it became what people recognized me,” she told the outlet.
“In 2002, after having been living and skating in San Francisco for a while, I decided I wanted to open a retail store that would merge skateboarding with the sneaker and streetwear scenes at the time,” he explained of the startup brand.

Hufnagel died after a two-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer, Huf Worldwide announced Thursday. “Although he beat the odds and fought back much longer than his diagnosis allowed, he ultimately and unfortunately lost the fight,” the brand that Hufnagel founded said in a lengthy statement.
“Keith wasn’t just the ‘HUF’ nagel at HUF. He was the heart and soul of this brand. He built and brought together a community of people like no one else could, “the statement continued, saying the skater” paved the way for all of us, as a respected professional skater, store owner, brand founder, shoe designer and apparel, creative director and industry leader. He showed us how to do it and how to do it right. ”
“Keith loved skateboarding and the culture that surrounded him. He did things his way and he did them for the right reasons. He inspired many of us around the world, ”the statement continued.
“But above all, Keith loved and supported the people around him. He would do anything for his friends, family and children. I passionately wanted to see others succeed. And we all love him for it. ”
The statement concluded by saying that Hufnagel’s legacy will live on at HUF. Today, tomorrow and forever. Rest in peace, Keith. ”
