Investigation
It comes after Italian investigators warned that their country’s mafias have been seeking commercial expansion in Spain.
General Giuseppe Governale, Italy’s anti-mafia director until 2020, warned that the influence of Italian mafias was particularly prevalent in the Balearic Islands.
La Camorra has a known presence on the islands, including Ibiza and Mallorca, due to their strategic geographical position, which makes them a port of call for drugs from South America.
The Palermo prosecutor, Francesco Lo Voi, also warned that the mafias will take advantage of the pandemic to buy bankrupt companies in the tourism sector throughout the continent, especially on the Spanish coast or in France.
Following the death of his brother, Licciardi is said to have taken over the family clan and maintained control by assembling an informal coalition of 20 other Camorra groups.
