Pratt’s family told media that the 16-year-old was shot and killed while on her way to resolve a dispute on social media. Pratt’s cousin Kira Walton said the high school sophomore had been bullied and attacked on Instagram for months before her death, according to ABC13. “He kept teasing her on Instagram, sending photos to people saying she was a prostitute. Playing with her … playing with her to the point where my cousin used to cry about it, ”Walton said.
According to the family’s interview with the outlet, Mareja, two of her sisters and a friend approached Wilcrest Baptist Church at the end of the street from their home. They were meeting with someone about the dispute on social media, the outlet wrote. The man who brought the other person involved in the dispute to the church began shooting at the group.

Pratt’s family described the young woman to ABC13 as someone who loved going to school and was eager to go to college. Pratt’s family created a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral expenses. Pratt’s brother, the organizer, wrote:
My little sister was only 16 she had so much life! She was on her books and focused on school. She was just a sophomore. Everyone loved her, she always kept a smile on her face and everyone was happy… She stood out when she entered the room! I am speechless saying that my little sister is gone. Nothing I can do or say will bring her back. She and I were the youngest and we are always together with our parents.
