Who was Marcus Milligan?
Authorities in Maryland say the fatal shooting of a couple and their three children at their home last week is ruled a murder-suicide.
The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that the investigation is continuing into the deaths of Marcus and Tara Milligan and their children: Teresa, Nora and Finn.
The sheriff’s office says a man called 911 Friday morning to report that three children and a woman had been fatally shot and that he was planning to kill himself.
Deputies arrived at the Elk Mills home and found all five members of the family dead.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Michael Holmes says Marcus Milligan killed the others and then himself.
“People find it surreal. How could this happen in our neighborhood, especially with this family?” said Tom Driscoll, who lives nearby.
Police say three children are among five people found dead from gunshot wounds at a home in Cecil County, Maryland.
Tara’s latest post on Facebook talked about her grief after losing her son Conor just 3 years ago. She succumbed to childhood cancer.
“I knew they had lost a son a couple of years before they moved here,” Driscoll said.
He fondly remembers the other three children.
“I remember at Christmas, the two girls and the boy came over with cookies they had made for us. It was really nice to see that the boys had made them…just a sugar chip cookie,” he said.
“How could one person take the lives of those three children and the family? Why do you have to take the whole family with you?”
Public records show the family purchased this house about two years ago.
Investigators are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the shootings and the motive.
