Malala Maiwand Biography
The attackers opened fire on Malala Maiwand’s car immediately after leaving her home in eastern Nangarhar province, said Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor.
Maiwand not only worked as a radio and television presenter, but was also an activist who defended the rights of Afghan women and children.
Maiwand, 20, was killed in a car bomb in Lashkar Gah a few weeks after the death of Radio Freedom reporter Aliyas Dayee.
Human Rights Watch said Dayee had previously been threatened by the Taliban.
Former Kabul TV host Yama Siawash was killed in a similar car bomb near her home last month. So far, no group has been held responsible for the killings.
The Afghan armed forces are fighting escalating violence in the country, unleashed in large part by the Taliban as they try to influence the peace talks that began in Qatar in September.
The international press freedom group Reporters Without Borders has named Afghanistan one of the deadliest countries in the world for journalists.
