Makuini Rikiti was a passenger in an allegedly stolen Subaru Liberty when it crashed in front of a restroom showroom at Hoppers Crossing, southwest of Melbourne around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Teenager Werribee, the youngest of the three passengers in the vehicle, was hospitalized but later died of her injuries.
Two teenagers who visited the crash site told the Herald Sun that they were friends with Makuini and described her as “a very good person.”
“She always put everyone in front of her and made sure everyone was happy,” said one of the girls.
“We used to hang out a lot. Most of the memories we made were pretty good.
The grieving girl said the fatal accident left her community heartbroken and she admitted that she was struggling to deal with it.
“It’s no one’s fault. People make mistakes and do things and obviously it ended up badly here. No one should make negative comments.
“I just hope she remembers you as a caring person and a good person too.” ”
Tributes to Makuini Rikiti continue to flood social media as her friends and family struggle to understand her tragic loss.
“My heart aches you dear Kuini, words cannot describe how sad I am. I have a feeling I saw you recently, ”wrote a friend.
“It shouldn’t be your time, baby, because. I hope the baby of us all, wherever you are now, is the safest,” wrote another.
Three teenagers were charged with the fatal accident.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old boy, also from Werribee, was charged with culpable driving, resulting in death.
A 15-year-old girl from Tarneit was charged with robbery and theft of motor vehicles. Both were later tried in juvenile court.
Another 17-year-old from Point Cook was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and was released on bail to appear in juvenile justice at a later date.
