Who is Majelic Young?
Majelic Young died last year at age 4, but police did not find her remains until May 2021. Now, it appears that she was abused before her death. A social worker called police at Young’s home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they found the boy’s remains buried in the backyard, according to WSOC-TV.
In the warrant, Majelic’s 13-year-old sister alleges that her mother, Malikah Bennett, forced Majelic to stand in the laundry room for three days in a row in August 2020. The boy was not allowed to sit or leave, and with Over time, her breathing became labored, Majelic’s sister said.
The 13-year-old girl told police that Majelic had a bowel movement in her pants and eventually fell over from exhaustion, hitting her head on the ground. That was the day Majelic died, her sister said.

Later, the police officers searched the backyard of the house where they found her body.
Nine months later, in May 2021, when the backyard was searched, along with the child’s body, a shovel was also found. Lucille Puckett, a family friend, who called the victim “Jelly,” said: “And actually seeing the search warrant, it hurt. I don’t see this happening only to Jelly. We don’t know how many children are lost in the system or could have been facing the same situation. ”
Suspect Arrested – Charges
According to the court order, Majelic’s mother then washed her body, placed it in two plastic bags, and left it in her truck for about five days. Bennett then dug a hole in the backyard and forced the 13-year-old to help bury her little sister, covering her body with dirt.
Nine months later, when police searched the yard on May 21, 2021, they found the remains along with a shovel. Lucille Puckett, a friend of the family, described Majelic’s abuse and death as “torture.” “And actually seeing the search warrant, it hurt,” said Puckett, who called the murdered child “Jelli.”
“I don’t see this happening only to Jelly,” she continued. “We don’t know how many children are lost in the system or could have been facing the same situation.” A vigil for Majelic was held last month. Dozens of people attended with candles, flowers and purple balloons. Majelic’s father and grandmother lit candles for him.
Bennet, 31, was charged with first degree murder, serious child abuse, inflicting physical injury and concealing a death, according to WSOC-TV.
Bennett’s mother, Tammy Taylor Moffett, 53, was also charged with concealing a death and being an accessory to the murder.
