Who was Luke Knox ?
LUKE Knox, a Florida International University junior linebacker and younger brother of Buffalo Bills star Dawson Knox, has died at the age of 22.
FIU announced the sudden death of the young player on Thursday; however, the cause of death was not disclosed.
Florida International University linebacker Luke Knox has died at 22.
Luke Knox transferred to FIU ahead of 2022 college football season.
“We are saddened by the sudden passing of Luke Knox, a member of the FIU soccer program,” the university wrote.
“We send our thoughts and prayers to Luke’s family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.”
Bills head coach Sean McDermott also confirmed the young star’s passing to reporters at training camp.
Death
“Our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time. We are there with him and supporting him and his family, and just tragic news that I woke up to this morning,” McDermott said.
Just weeks before his death, Knox shared a series of photos from his trip to Miami with his FIU teammates and loved ones.
“Live in Miami and play a little ball?! Yes, we’ll take that,” the young stud wrote.
“Thank you, Lord, for blessing me. You always know what is best! First month in Miami. (Speaks Spanish quite fluently now).”
The films included Knox’s fishing adventure on a Florida lake and several shots of him and his teammates enjoying the Miami nightlife. Originally from Brentwood, Tennessee, Knox transferred to FIU ahead of the 2022 college football season after spending his first four college seasons at the University of Mississippi.
FIU head coach Mike MacIntyre, who previously coached Knox as a defensive coordinator at Ole Miss, said in a statement Wednesday that he was heartbroken by the young star’s death.
“Luke’s family is special to me and they will be continually in my heart and prayers during this difficult time,” MacIntyre said.
“On behalf of the entire FIU soccer family, I extend my deepest condolences to Luke’s family and all who love him.”
Statement
Ole Miss soccer has not yet issued a statement.
Like Knox, his older brother Dawson also played at Ole Miss from 2016 to 2018 and has since emerged as a star tight end for the Bills.
The duo played one season together at Ole Miss before Dawson decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.
Dawson has not yet released a statement on the tragedy.
