In a statement about the victim’s impact, McCann-Barrett’s mother said: “Mark was a loving father and partner. His whole world revolved around his children, my grandchildren.
“I will never forgive the person who did this to Mark. She took the father of my four grandchildren when they were so young. ”

“During the trial, Kelly claimed to have shot Mark McCann-Barrett in self-defense.
But with the help of the pathologist, a firearms expert, and a bloodstain analysis, the prosecution was able to prove that Kelly assaulted his victim in his sleep and defenseless.
“We were also able to present evidence that Kelly had planned the attack hours earlier by picking up a gun before inviting Mr. McCann-Barrett to his home for the night.”
