Louis De Zoysa Biography
Louis De Zoysa, 23, allegedly shot 54-year-old Matt Ratana in the chest while handcuffed at the Croydon Custody Center, south London, on September 25 last year.
Sergeant Ratana died after being shot in the heart at 2.15am as he prepared to register the suspect that he had been arrested on suspicion of intent to supply drugs and possession of ammunition.
The 23-year-old from Norbury, south London, was also hit in the neck by a bullet and left seriously ill and partially paralyzed.
He spent five months in critical condition at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
In February, it emerged that De Zoysa had contracted Covid at the hospital and was still too ill to be questioned by detectives in another setback to the investigation.

He is still in custody for the alleged murder of Sergeant Ratana, but a Metropolitan Police spokesman said time had not started on his custody time limit.
An investigation into the death of Sergeant Ratana, who was from New Zealand, heard that the suspect had been detained by patrol officers around 1.30 a.m. September 25.
His search for the suspect found drugs and ammunition, and he was arrested for illegally possessing ammunition and for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
The suspect was handcuffed behind his back and taken by police officers to a detention room at the police station to be searched.
