Lisa Helena Zarecky, 48, was found dead on her friend’s couch

She had spent years taking prescription pills after a car accident in 2014.

The artist, who was Glastonbury Festival’s first female breakbeat DJ, performed at a live online party before staying at a friend’s house in Swansea, South Wales, in May last year.

The next day, Lisa’s friend, Owain Jones, came in from her to find her lying on the couch with her eyes open.

Causes of Death

She was pronounced dead at the scene, an inquest heard.

Near Lisa was a wide range of prescription drugs.

The car accident in 2014 had a “profound impact on the rest of her life,” with her regularly battling agonizing pain, the hearing said.

Toxicology reports found that Lisa had an enlarged liver at the time of her death along with traces of prescription drugs and methadone.

She had settled in London after university and traveled around the UK as a DJ, her family said.

She did, however, become “withdrawn” during the lockdown and stopped exercising, choosing instead to spend much of her time in her room.

In a statement, her loved ones said they saw a “significant change in her behavior” from her.

Inquiry heard that she was hoping to perform at the live stream party in Swansea, South Wales, in May last year.

Her brother watched the party online and said it was “wonderful to see Lisa having fun.”

Colin Phillips recorded conclusion of a drug-related

Acting Chief Coroner Colin Phillips recorded the conclusion of a drug-related death at the inquest in Swansea.

He said: “She died as a result of the unintended consequences of taking prescription medication for chronic pain” and recorded one drug-related death.

Investigation

Following the investigation, Lisa’s friend Charlotte Toney paid tribute, adding: “Lisa was an energetic, creative, kind and caring soul to everyone.

“Lisa has left a void that will never be filled by those who knew and loved her best, but she will always be remembered as the shining light that she was, no matter what.”
