Lisa Blagden Wiki
Lisa Blagden Biography
A young woman who gave birth without knowing she was pregnant and then hid her dead baby in a hedge today was released from court after a district judge ruled she was ‘blameless’ despite her guilty plea .
A court heard that Lisa Blagden did not know she was pregnant when she gave birth to Ivory Rose at age 20 in the bathroom of her family home, having been ‘groomed’ from a young age by an older man.
She then she collapsed due to blood loss and when she woke up she was unable to revive the girl.
In a panic, she cut the umbilical cord with scissors, wrapped the girl in a towel, and hid her in a nearby bush, which was visible from her bedroom window.
After the baby was discovered, Blagden was arrested along with her mother and her sister and her mental health deteriorated due to the traumatic events.
The court heard that police also interviewed the baby’s father, an anonymous 50-year-old man, who “had no interest in the baby’s birth or death” and whom the judge described as “despicable.”
Today Blagden, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to hiding the baby’s death from her, but she was discharged outright as the judge said she had “suffered enough punishment.”
What is Rhys Evans, prosecuting, told Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court?
Rhys Evans, accuser, told the Portsmouth Magistrates Court: “She was unaware of the pregnancy. She was home alone on December 27, 2019 when she experienced what she believed to be extreme menstrual cramps at the time.
She prepared a bath to ease the pain. She experienced the pain again and Ivory Rose was born in the bathroom. ‘
Mr. Evans described how the baby was alive and crying, so Blagden lifted her off the ground and she collapsed. He added: ‘When she woke up, Ivory Rose was under her and she wasn’t breathing anymore. She tried to revive the boy without success.
She believed that she would be arrested and blamed for her death, so she cut her umbilical cord with toilet scissors.
“ He wrapped Ivory Rose in a yellow towel and a T-shirt, carried her outside and placed her in a bush near the address. ”
He explained that she had chosen this spot in a nearby hedge because it was visible from her bedroom window.

“She did not tell anyone in her family what had happened for fear of upsetting or disappointing them,” she added.
Evans told the court that police spoke with his father, a man 30 years older than Blagden, and described him as “little interested in the circumstances of Ivory Rose’s birth or death.”
Ivory Rose was found on the street about 50 meters from Blagden’s home after it was concluded that the animals had pulled her out of the hedge.
Police interviewed Blagden’s mother and sister while conducting investigations at nearby addresses. They told police that no one in the house had been pregnant, as Blagden had not told anyone at the time.
In fact, it wasn’t until the DNA samples matched Blagden to the baby that she was arrested along with her mother and her sister.
Lisa Blagden did not know she was pregnant when she gave birth to Ivory Rose aged 20
In this interview, the police officers were the first people Blagden told about the birth and death of her baby.
Evans added: “ Sadly, the tragic circumstances surrounding Ivory Rose’s birth and death have negatively affected her own mental health in significant ways, as has press interest and social media activity.
‘Due to her concealment, Ivory Rose was deprived of the dignity of a proper burial. Her entire family has had to be uprooted and transferred because of this crime. ‘
She said Blagden had to be sectioned under mental health law for nine days starting May 20 last year after she had a psychotic attack and experienced hallucinations in which her baby was still alive.
Becky Strong, in defense, said she had been “punished much, much more” than any possible court sentence.
She added: ‘She had formed a friendship with a man who was significantly older than her and formed this friendship at a young age.
‘She looked at this person as a father figure, which she did not have at the time. Over the years, this changed about him, turning him into a sexual nature. This was not something she wanted.
She had not spoken to her family that she had become something of a sexual nature.
“ She had no idea that she was pregnant, she still had periods on a regular basis, she had lost weight.
“ Her surprise at giving birth to a child that she did not know she was pregnant must have been himself, I can’t even imagine what she was going through. ”
Ms. Strong said that Blagden thought the baby would be fine if she took it out of her and therefore she walked with the child in her arms for a long time.
She said that she chose her spot in the woods because it was Blagden’s “safe space” where she went whenever she was bullied when she was a child and she could see it from her window.
The court heard that Blagden visited the baby every day for about four weeks, until the night before the animals took her body away.
Miss Blagden told the court via video link: ‘I was there every day until the day they found her.’
Strong added that Blagden tried to tell her mom what had happened sometime after her birth, but the father of her baby had stopped her and “reminded her that everyone would disown her.”
She said: ‘She was just a scared and vulnerable girl that she didn’t feel like she could turn to anyone for help.
“Your decisions of hers, or the lack of decisions at the time, will haunt her.”
In sentencing, DDJ Roderick Hine said: ‘This is indeed a tragic case. It’s hard to imagine a more tragic circumstance … hard to imagine what impact it must have felt when this baby was born in the bathroom.
He caused her to collapse, no doubt from her blood loss, and upon awakening she discovered that the baby was not breathing.
“She is a young mother, abandoned by a man I can only describe as despicable. She tried to cover herself, which was the only thing that worried her.
She was clearly grooming her. I can’t imagine someone with more moralistic scruples.
He said visiting the girl every day for four weeks was “the only psychological way she could deal with it.”
The judge decided to dismiss Blagden outright, stating that she “has already suffered enough punishment.”
He added: “I hope that anyone who reports on this can make it clear that she is innocent and so is her family.”
