Lewis Hughes Biography
Who was Lewis Hughes?
One of the men photographed abusing Professor Chris Whitty in a London park claims he was fired from his job as a real estate agent.
Lewis Hughes, 24, was dating his friend Jonathan Chew when they contacted the St. James’ Park medical director.
Professor Whitty, who looked very uncomfortable in a video of the meeting, was shown trying to escape after the two men laughed and hugged him.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the couple “vile thugs” and the incident prompted the doctor to be asked for the same level of protection as ministers.
Hughes, who admitted to drinking, said he was “paying with his work” after the photos went viral.
He apologized for the uproar and explained that he just wanted a selfie to show his mother.
He told The Sun, “He’s a pretty shy and shy person and I think that’s why he didn’t say, ‘Get away from me.’
“If he had said it and he had noticed what he was feeling, he would not have hugged him.”
Hughes, of Romford, Essex, said he was “disappointed” in Johnson, whom he voted for after being labeled a criminal.
He had been on an anti-Vax march with Chew, also 24, when they met Professor Whitty around 3 p.m. Sunday.
Chew, who told The Sun that he suffers from ADHD and autism, told the newspaper: “I don’t think we’ve done anything wrong.
“We watched it and said, ‘This is the guy from TV.’
The Metropolitan Police said officers were speaking with everyone involved at this time and that “the circumstances are still under investigation.”
Johnson tweeted: “I’m shocked to see the egregious harassment from Medical Director Chris Whitty.”
He continued: Our civil servants must not face this type of harassment on our streets and we will not tolerate it.
As demands for police protection increased, Interior Minister Priti Patel said: “The police are also participating effectively and we are also talking to Chris to see what we can do to help them.”
