Leon Boase Wiki

                          Leon Boase  Biography

A Covid-affected father told his fiancée on Facetime ‘don’t put me to sleep, I won’t wake up’ before he was put into a coma and then died.

Leon Boase, 40, was terrified not to wake up before being sedated, said his devastated partner Nichola Jennison.

The couple had self-isolating after both contracted the virus in early November.

Boase initially showed no symptoms, but was rushed to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire on 12 November with excruciating stomach pains.

Ms Jennison, 38, said: ‘Her last words to me were,’ Don’t put me to sleep, I won’t wake up. I will never forget that. It was so heartbreaking to hear him, but I told him to stop being silly and I’d be home soon. ‘

The UK recorded a record 55,892 coronavirus cases yesterday and 964 deaths, as government scientists warned that even a March-style national lockdown with schools mostly closed might not be enough to keep the R rate below one.

Doctors gave him only a 1 percent chance of survival, but said he would need a lung transplant, which was not available at the time.

Within 24 hours he was placed on a ventilator and he spent the next four weeks fighting for his life in intensive care while his defenseless family watched him.

At that time, Mr. Boase was diagnosed with pneumonia twice and his kidneys also began to fail.

Doctors gave him only a 1 percent chance of survival, but said he would need a lung transplant, which was not available at the time.

Boase, a forklift driver from Ormesby, Middlesbrough, died on December 13.

Heartbroken Jennison spoke to his partner one last time on FaceTime after one of the nurses called him.

I can’t understand what happened. She never smoked, she didn’t drink, she didn’t go out, she was always so cautious but now she’s gone.

Mr. Boase was a devoted father to Leo, 8, and a stepfather to Leighton, 16. He was also a loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin.

He worked at KP Food in Billingham, County Durham, and was a talented amateur footballer in his late teens.

Ms Jennison described Mr Boase as her ‘first and last love’

Jennison described Boase as her “first and last love” before her funeral on Tuesday.

In paying tribute, Ms Jennison said: ‘Leon was the best father and partner in the world, even when he was in a bad mood.

“All he did was work hard and support us. She did not ask for anything or hurt anyone; he was simply quiet, reserved, and a loving family man.

Ms Jennison recounted that the couple had been together for nine years but “dated” for a time when they were students at Ormesby School.

She said: ‘We went our separate ways but we met again. It was my first and last love.

Ms Jennison said

“ We did what we did, wherever we went, he made it special for us. I’ve told the kids that God only gets the best and that’s exactly what it was. ‘

His death follows a 55-year-old high school teacher, Paul Hilditch, who passed away just two days before Christmas after contracting Covid-19, and his heartbroken mother said she didn’t get a chance to see him at the hospital to say goodbye.
