The FBI announced that remains were found after Chatham County police spent weeks sifting through thousands of pounds of trash at a landfill in search of Quinton’s body.
Suspect Arrested
Leilani Simon was named a prime suspect in the alleged death and disappearance of her son in early October.
Police said Leilani, 22, was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she will remain while she awaits a bond hearing.
Leilani’s arrest comes more than a month after authorities named her the prime suspect in the alleged death and disappearance of her son.
Little Quinton disappeared from his grandmother’s home in Savannah, Georgia, on October 5.
Authorities believe the toddler was thrown in the trash before his remains were accidentally dumped in a nearby landfill.
Chatham police have spent weeks sifting through thousands of pounds of garbage at the dump for signs of Quinton’s remains.
On Monday, authorities announced a pause in the search.
Hours later, the FBI said: “On Friday, FBI and Chatham County search teams found what we preliminarily believe to be partial remains of a human child.”
Will Clarke, a senior FBI supervisor from Savannah, added that the remains were “immediately forwarded” for further testing to determine if they belong to Quinton.
