Arrested and Charged
A Florida woman was arrested on multiple felonies, charged with hacking into a flight training school’s computer system and tampering with data as part of a plot to avenge her father’s firing.
As a precautionary measure, Fallon suspended all flights for two days until data, including information on aircraft inspections, could be restored.
“Between the time the data was changed and fixed, it was a situation that could have endangered human life,” Fallon wrote in the affidavit.
The flight school executive then pointed the accusing finger of the attack at a former father-daughter employee: Hampton and Lauren Lide, of Palm Bay.
According to the affidavit, Hampton Lide, 60, was fired from his job as Director of Maintenance at MFT in November 2019, and his daughter resigned from her job as Flight Operations Manager on the same day. .
Over the course of the 21-month investigation that followed, officers discovered that login information belonging to MFT’s current flight operations manager was used to tamper with the flight software, but the person in that position signed a affidavit confirming that you did not make those changes. .
Eventually, investigators learned that the IP address used in the attack belonged to Hampton Lide, but he assured them that he “had no idea” how the flight data was changed.
When asked who would want to tamper with the information, he was quoted as saying to investigators: “I’m a little worried about my daughter at the moment.”
All of the school’s planes had to be on the ground for two days until the data was reset.
Hampton Lide then said that Fallon, the chief executive of MFT, made her daughter ‘miserable’ and put her through ‘torment’ during her tenure at her company, adding that she was angry with the boss of her for firing him from her.
Authorities said she Hampton Lide tried to confess to hacking into the system, but authorities said she could not explain what she did or how.
They eventually concluded that Lauren Lide had the skills and ability to breach the software and alter the information on the plane.
Lauren was released from jail within hours of her arrest after posting bail totaling $ 9,000.
