Laura Mojica Romero Biography
Laura Mojica Romero, a native of the city of San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec in Oaxaca, won the Miss Oaxaca regional beauty pageant in 2018 and participated in the Miss Mexico competition the following year. In 2020, she participated in the Reina Internacional del Café beauty pageant in Colombia, The Sun reported.
According to the British newspaper, the university graduate, who rose to fame after winning Miss Earth Oaxaca 2015, has made headlines again, albeit for the wrong reasons. Mexican prosecutors released police photographs of Romero along with photographs of the other seven suspects detained with her.

Arrested – Charges
The 25-year-old reportedly belongs to a criminal organization that specializes in carrying out kidnappings in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz.
Official police reports indicate that the suspects involved in the case are named Luis Antonio, Raúl, María del Rosario, Ana Martha, César Enrique, Diego and Jossiel. The Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the group had been detained in the city of Huatusco de Chicuellar in the Mexican state of Veracruz on February 11.
A translated statement from the State Prosecutor’s Office said: “In compliance with the instruction issued by the State Attorney General, Verónica Hernández Giadán, not to give truce to people who seriously injure Veracruz society, specialized prosecutors attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office . The Anti-Kidnapping Unit (UECS) obtained eight links to the process against the same number of people, presumably members of a criminal cell dedicated to kidnapping.
“The capture of Luis Antonio, Raúl, María del Rosario, Ana Martha, Laura, César Enrique, Diego and Jossiel took place this judicial demarcation when specialized personnel in the fight against kidnapping implemented an operation to capture those now linked to the process” .The statement continues: “The eight alleged kidnappers were at the disposal of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, who, by providing conclusive evidence against them, obtained from the judicial authority the corresponding procedural links and the imposition of the corresponding precautionary measures, as well as two months to the complementary research.
“With these actions, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic reaffirms its unrestricted commitment to fight head-on this type of criminal behavior that seriously damages the freedom of Veracruz citizens.”
A judge has given authorities two months to investigate the charges, and the eight suspects remain in custody until it is concluded. If convicted, Mojica Romero and his alleged colleagues could face up to 50 years in prison. Mojica Romero also won Miss Earth Oaxaca in 2015, she was runner-up at the International Queen of Coffee last year and was the third runner-up at Miss Mexico 2019.
Speaking in January 2019 after her victory in Miss Oaxaca, Mojica Romero said it was time to end violence against women.
She said: “We cannot stand idly by, we have to eradicate violence against women, through campaigns and educational talks that sensitize men on this issue.”
