A girl performing in a North Carolina Christmas parade has died after a driver lost control of a vehicle towing a float in the procession and struck her.
A GMC Denali was pulling a float for the CC & Co. dance in the Raleigh Christmas Parade when the driver began yelling that he had lost control of the vehicle, ABC 11 reported.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Raleigh police later identified 20-year-old Landen C. Glass as the driver, according to CBS 17.

Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin lamented the incident, saying “our hearts are heavy.”

The young woman later died after being beaten, despite her efforts to save his life.

The driver faces a series of charges.
Glass hit the girl at low speed, but despite efforts to save her life, she later died, the station reported. No other participant was injured.
“They were trying to get us all out of the way,” dancer Cheyenne Hamilton, 17, told The News & Observer. “But unfortunately, one of the dancers couldn’t get out of the way. They took (the dancer) out right in front of us.”

Glass, of Goode, Va., faces charges of death by a motor vehicle, negligent and reckless driving, improper equipment, unsafe movement and carrying a firearm in a parade, ABC 11 reported.”Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the young woman who lost her life today in the Raleigh Christmas Parade,” said Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin. “Our prayers are with her family, friends, and the dancers at CC & Co. The community is here to help as we try to understand and process this shared tragedy.”
