Who was Kyuss Williams ?

A four-year-old boy with autism was found dead in a Georgia pond after walking away from a relative’s apartment on Monday.

Kyuss Williams disappeared around 6:20 p.m. after visiting East Ponce Village Apartments in Stone Mountain, where a relative had recently moved. He was reported missing minutes later.

Family

“The family was at the residence when they realized the child had left the residence,” DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha Ramos told reporters. “They didn’t know where the boy was.”

The family searched for the boy for about 10 minutes before calling emergency services.

Initially, investigators did not focus on the retention pond at the complex, a neighbor told FOX 5 Atlanta. However, after viewing surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store, they saw that the boy had headed in that direction.

The boy’s body was recovered from a pond around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Dekalb County Police Department. The body of water was just a few feet from the relative’s home, according to WSB-TV.

Death

Police do not suspect foul play in the boy’s death and no criminal charges have been filed, although an investigation is ongoing.

“We express our condolences to the Kyuss family during this time and thank everyone who worked to find him,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

Neighbors told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that police sealed off the surrounding area for several hours as they combed the area.

“Fire department, helicopter, whatever, they had it here,” complex resident William Brown told the outlet on Tuesday. “They had the dogs, and I think that’s how they knew the baby was in the water.”

A rescue team used inflatable boats to navigate the pond, Officer Elise Wells said.

Other neighbors told FOX 5 that the community’s retention pond should be fenced off to prevent another tragedy.

“They’ve been looking for this baby since yesterday, and for them to find it at like 2:30 in the morning, it’s completely wrong,” resident Dolores Watson said. ‘I can only pray for the parents’.
