Who is Kyle John Sheldon?
Gold Coast man Kyle John Sheldon, 34, killed motorcyclist Peter McGregor after he veered onto the wrong side of the road while drunk in 2009.
He later robbed an IGA supermarket and crashed a Volkswagen Golf into a parked truck, killing his two best friends, Zachary De Palma and Jeremy Booth, in 2011.
Sheldon was jailed for 14 years for the two accidents before being paroled in November 2017.
The 34-year-old filed an application with the District Court requesting that a decision disqualifying him from driving for life be reversed.
He made the statement despite admitting he had been arrested for steroids and cocaine since his release and was a “serious” methamphetamine addict, the Courier Mail reported.
Sheldon said in the application that he got a job with a Brisbane formwork company after he was released from jail.
He was forced to ride a bike or skateboard, take a train or a taxi, and rely on his friends and family for a ride to work.
Sheldon said that he started his own business, but his lack of independence had begun to affect his wife, who had to take him to his clients.
‘The reality of the situation is that I need my license so I can attend pest control jobs and meet with prospective and future clients,’ he said.
“I won’t be able to build this business and support my family if I can’t drive.”
