Authorities are still investigating how the sixth-grade girl from nearby Idaho Falls obtained the gun and what prompted her to carry out the attack.
Jefferson School District Superintendent Chad Martin said schools will be closed on Friday across the district so students have time to spend with their families. Counselors will be available starting Friday. “This is the worst nightmare a school district could face. We prepare for that, “Martin said,” but you’re never really ready. ”
Jefferson County Prosecutor Mark Taylor said decisions on the criminal charges will not be made until the investigation is complete, but could include three counts of attempted murder.
