Kobina Essel Wiki
Kobina Essel Biography
Who is Kobina Essel ?
A teenage murderer who stuck a knife in the neck of a Matalan store manager has had his life sentence shortened eight months after a judge told him he is now “gentle and sensitive.”
Kobina Essel, known by the gang name Aggro, stabbed Jamie Simpson three times with a 10-inch knife while he and three others attempted to steal £ 30,000 from a Matalan in Hackney, London in 2008.
Trial Judge Martin Stephens told Essel at his sentencing hearing: “This was a brutal attack on an unarmed man who was handling his legal affairs.”
But Essel’s life sentence has now been shortened by eight months through the use of a rule that allows teen offenders to request a review of their time inside, The Sun reported.
The High Court agreed to the reduction after hearing evidence from supporters calling Essel “a kind and sensitive man with real maturity in his approach to communicating and interacting with others.”
But Simpson’s father, Lambert, 69, of Derby, said: ‘This well-behaved thing is a joke. He can get out of jail early, but my son is no longer here.
His sister’s children have never met his uncle. He is not well. ‘
Judge Stephens previously told Essel: ‘This case vividly demonstrates the horrors of knife crime and the dire consequences for the victim, his family and friends, and for society at large.
‘You went into this with your eyes open. You came in with a knife and didn’t hesitate to use it.
