He often goaded them to the point of wanting to commit suicide.

Sadly, there are many criminals like Elahi who mask their real identities with compelling characters to exploit children and adults alike.

“I urge parents to talk to their children about who they communicate with online and what they share.

‘People need to understand that these offenses can happen to anyone.

Our investigation has sparked a number of other inquiries into Elahi’s associates and work is underway to bring others to justice.

“We thank our international partners, especially the FBI, for their support in this case.”

Victim

Elahi admitted crimes against a total of 79 victims, from children under the age of one to adults, committed between January 2017 and August 2020.

Sophie Mortimer from the Revenge Porn helpline said: ‘We have been working with the National Crime Agency to remove content online on behalf of victims for over 18 months.

“We have managed to remove thousands of images but there are more prominent ones and this work will continue for many more months.

“It is not simply nudity or sexually graphic, it is violent, degrading and deeply damaging.

“The impact of sharing this content is devastating and life changing and should not be underestimated.”
