A police dog has been hailed as a hero after he helped find a six-year-old girl missing for nearly a month after she was allegedly abducted by her father. Fred the hound sniffed his way to Kinzleigh Reeder and her father Nicholas Reeder on Friday, solving the mystery of her disappearance on May 26.
Officers “obtained an item that belonged to his father and allowed Fred to smell it,” the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
“He sniffed the door and the doorknob, then sat down indicating that he found the father,” the sheriff’s office said.
Kinzleigh, who was inside a barricaded outhouse in Dekalb County, Tennessee, ran up to Fred and hugged him the moment she saw him. She and her father were in the back of a shed behind blankets hanging from a clothesline.

Arrested and Charged
Nicholas was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse and neglect. He had arrest warrants for failure to appear and custody interference.
Kinzleigh had been removed from her father’s custody in March when authorities found them camping under a flooding bridge. The father and daughter ended up there after Nicholas apparently drove his Nissan Rogue off the road and the vehicle got stuck in a creek.
Nicholas’s bail was set at $ 175,000, according to WKRN. Meanwhile, Kinzleigh was released and taken in by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
Fred’s deputy, Rutherford County Sheriff Richard Tidwell, rewarded him with chicken dough and pizza.
“I praised him and I loved him. I took the chicken reward out of my pocket, “Tidwell said.” He ate the chicken and wanted to meet other people as if to say, “Look what I’ve done.”
The outhouse was barricaded and the windows hidden behind metal, according to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray.
“There was no ventilation or air conditioning inside the small unit. There was hardly any food or water for the boy, ”Ray said, according to People. “The outhouse had a strong ammonia smell where the two of them had been urinating and defecating in a five-gallon bucket.”
