Kieran Scott Biography

Who is Kieran Scott?

Kieran Scott, 19, lashed out at defenseless Daniel Thomas, 53, while sitting on a bench in Hull on June 14 this year.

Hull Crown Court heard that Scott was upset with Mr Thomas, known as Mark, for ‘freaking out’ on him and being ‘shameless’.

After the attack, Mr. Thomas never regained consciousness and died two days later in hospital from a brain hemorrhage.

Scott, of Sherburn Street, Hull, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Charged

He was originally charged with murder, but the prosecution accepted his guilty plea to the misdemeanor.

Richard Thompson, a prosecutor, said that on June 14, 2022, Thomas was sitting on a bench on the corner of Newbridge Road and Sherburn Street, a can of cider in his hand.

A woman was standing and talking to him, but he was being “quite argumentative” with her, the court heard.

Two men, including Scott, approached from Sherburn Street and asked Mr. Thomas, the woman and another man if they wanted anything, which they assumed was drugs, but they all refused.

The men turned and walked back to the bench, but Scott walked over to Mr. Thomas, who was sitting on the bench with his elbows on his knees “in his own world.”

Mr Thompson said: “Without warning, he delivered the fatal blow with his right hand to the head of the deceased.”

The blow was “unprovoked and completely unexpected” and landed on Mr. Thomas’s left cheek with an “audible thud”, the court heard.

Scott and the other man walked away.

Thompson said: ‘They were both laughing and didn’t look back. The deceased fell sideways onto the bench and then fell to the ground.

Attack

The attack occurred on June 14, 2022, at a bank on the corner of Newbridge Road and Sherburn Street, Hull.

The next day, his family was told that the prognosis was very poor, and on June 16, he was taken off life support. He had never regained consciousness after the assault.

Scott later told police during the interview that he punched Mr. Thomas once in the face because he was being “cheeky” with him and it had upset him.

Scott has convictions for 20 prior crimes, including assault in August and September 2018 and a fight in September 2018.

He was found guilty of intimidating a witness in October 2018, which involved telling a woman he would “go through the windows” if she reported him to the police.

He had convictions for cannabis possession and criminal damage in 2019 and tampering with stolen property in January of last year.

He was jailed for two years in October last year at Hull Crown Court for robbery, supply of Class A drugs and possession of cannabis. He was released on January 25.

For involuntary manslaughter, Scott has been sentenced to six years in a Young Offenders Institution.

Judge John Thackray KC said Mr Thomas posed “absolutely no threat” to Scott and the attack was “totally unprovoked and unexpected”.

The court heard that Scott knew that Mr. Thomas was not paying attention and was under the influence of alcohol and unable to defend himself.

Scott, who was wearing a gray T-shirt and gray jacket, showed signs of being upset as he was taken off the bench.
