Who was Kerry Ann Bowers?

Kerry Ann Bowers, 29, was crushed to death after she and her sister Georgia tried to start the defective vehicle on top of a hill in Camborne, Cornwall.

The sisters struggled to move the car, because it was behind a bump and at the top of a hill, but finally got the wheels moving again after a strong push.

At the time, Kerry was standing between the driver’s seat and the open door on the right side of her Ford Galaxy, which she had her children in the back seat.

But, because the 4,100-pound vehicle was perched on a hilly stretch of road at the time, it began to roll at high speed with no one behind the wheel, an investigation was heard Wednesday.

As Kerry desperately tried to jump into the runaway vehicle, she screamed for help and was dragged more than 50 feet down the road.

Traveling at high speed, the car managed to climb onto a sidewalk and crash into a hedge, trapping the helpless mother between the door and the car frame.

Despite the best efforts of the paramedics who rushed to save her, her Kerry would later die at the scene.

In recording an “accidental death” finding, Senior Coroner Andrew Cox described his own experience of Kerry’s “innocuous” actions that led to her tragic death.

He said: ‘I strive to recognize that something so innocuous can have such a devastating result. I’ve done this myself many times. ‘

On June 10, 2021, Kerry and her sister Georgia fought to start Kerry’s black Ford Galaxy.

The vehicle’s ignition appeared to be malfunctioning due to an ‘intermittent wiring problem’, Expert Vehicle Examiner Mark Richards later explained.

Around 2 p.m., her mother, whom they had planned to meet at a nearby supermarket, told Kerry and Georgia to try a kick start, which involves pushing a car while pulling the clutch to start the engine. .

Georgia said: ‘She kept saying she couldn’t breathe, I said there was nothing I could do and I was talking to her before getting the kids out of the car.

“I pointed to a car and asked the driver if she could help.”

The passerby called emergency services and helped keep the car stationary by applying the parking brake and placing a brick under the front wheel.

Despite her quick-thinking actions, Kerry of Connor Downs died as a result of her injuries and the fire and rescue service cut her through the bushes.

PC Karen Roberts, who knew Kerry from living next door to her mother, attended the scene at 2.08pm with PC Sarah Gough.

PC Roberts said in the investigation that “it was not an easy incident to attend” as she knew Kerry.

She said: ‘We were called to an incident in Pengegon at 2.08. When we got there, the Ford Galaxy was standing with its end in a hedge on the opposite side of the hill.

“Ambulance and fire brigade teams have already attended. Sadly, I was told that Kerry had died, which was not an easy incident to attend to: Kerry’s mother is an old neighbor and I had watched Kerry grow up over the years.

‘When we got there, everything was under control, we did nothing but manage the scene. It was a one-vehicle traffic collision. ”

The investigation also heard that there were no major faults in the car, just an intermittent wiring problem that affected the ignition.

Cornwall Senior Coroner Andrew Cox said Kerry was unable to return to the car, that she stepped onto a sidewalk and hit a thick hedge.

He said: ‘Hedgerow closed the driver’s door and Kerry was trapped in the hole and the door and sadly suffocated.

Tributes paid to Kerry shortly after her death by people who knew her spoke of her kindness and how she always had a smile on her face.

Shamela Smith Williams said at the time: ‘Absolutely devastated. Sleep easy, beautiful girl, many memories that will always be treasured. ‘

Joanna Jones added: ‘How horrible. They were childhood friends throughout school. Sending so much love to his family and dear children. ‘

Kirsty Tonkin described Kerry as “a lovely girl” who would help anyone. She went on to say that she couldn’t believe Kerry was gone.

Kellie Bassett said: ‘Absolutely devastated for the family. Sleep well, they will never forget you.
