Devastated friends have paid tribute to Kennie following last night’s fatal attack.

A close friend of the family, Beckiee Carol-Jadee McCabe, said: ‘I grew up with her family, my family is very close to hers, they are like family to me.

‘I am absolutely heartbroken. For such a beautiful young soul to have been taken too soon at the age of 16, he was such a calm child that he grew up and would not harm anyone.

“Loved by so many people. He is so devastating that he had to lose his life to a knife crime. He will be sorely missed by all who knew Kennie.”

“There will always be a place in my heart for him.”

A woman who lives locally said that Kennie was friends with her son and that he was a “lovely little boy”.

She told MEN: ‘He was just a lovely boy. ‘He caused no trouble or harm to anyone. He was funny, he made everyone laugh and he had a cheeky smile.

Speaking outside Stretford Police Station this afternoon, Greater Manchester Police Superintendent Caroline Hemingway said: “Once again we see the absolutely devastating consequences of knife crime – it destroys lives, families and communities.”

It is so heartbreaking to see such a young life lost and to see such young people suspected of being capable of such a horrendous act of violence.

‘We will not stop tackling this problem in our society, and we are doing everything we can with our partners and the community to prevent more young lives from being lost on our streets.

‘It is vital that the public provide us with any information or concerns, knowing that we will treat it in the strictest confidence. This can be done by contacting the police/major incident room or Crimestoppers anonymously.

‘A family is grieving today for the loss of a very dear young soul.

“If you know someone who carries a knife, take care of them: think of how their actions could cost someone their life, ruin the life of a poor family, ruin their own life, and ruin the lives of their loved ones.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police via 101, citing incident 2529 of 01/22/2022.

Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
