Kelly McKin Wiki
Kelly McKin Biography
Kelly McKin is the Florida man facing a felony charge of spitting on a Disney World worker who had asked him to wear a mask, according to an arrest affidavit filed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Later, the security worker identified McKin, 51, from a photograph on a surveillance camera. McKin has denied spitting on him.
The confrontation occurred on February 5 and McKin was arrested the next day. But Mckin’s name was not publicly known until March 15, when the sheriff’s office released the arrest report.
The Security Guard Asked Mckin if He Needed Directions
The confrontation between McKin and the security guard was not initially due to the lack of a face mask. According to the arrest report, the security guard said he first noticed McKin as he walked back to his golf cart after finishing his lunch break.
He said he saw McKin try to enter the convention center of the Contemporary Resort, which is a Disney hotel. The security guard drove his golf cart to where McKin asked if he needed directions.
McKin responded that he was a hotel guest, according to the arrest report. The security guard informed McKin that the convention center was closed to the public.
McKin Spit on the Security Guard After She Asked Him Twice to Wear a Face Mask
The security guard then asked McKin if he had a mask. He answered yes, and she asked him to put it on. According to the arrest report, McKin told the security guard that she would put on her mask when she entered the building.
She replied that according to Disney policy, he was supposed to wear a mask at all times. She cited the fact that Disney was private property and asked him again to put on the mask. McKin told him to leave him alone.
The security guard told officers that McKin approached her and intentionally spat at her. She said, “The saliva did not make direct contact, but a little saliva hit her on the left forehead.” The guard had no radio with her at the time and left the scene to call for reinforcements. McKin entered the hotel and got into the elevator, according to the arrest report.
The security guard said she cleaned herself up, told a colleague what had happened, and notified Disney’s COVID-19 exposure hotline. She told officers that she wanted to press charges against McKin and that she was willing to testify in court about the confrontation. She refused medical services.
Disney Alerted Security Officers to Watch for McKin & He Was Arrested the Following Day
According to the arrest report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Disney security officers were instructed to keep an eye on McKin after the confrontation with the security guard. The park had a security camera photo of McKin and he was taken into custody the next day on a “trespassing warning.”
The Orange County deputy wrote in the report that he recognized McKin from the surveillance photo provided. The officer also noted that McKin matched the security guard’s verbal description, which included that the suspect had a long gray beard and mustache.
The deputy said that he read McKin the rights of him Miranda before asking what had happened. According to the report, McKin acknowledged having a “verbal discussion” with the security guard about a mask. But he denied making any physical movement towards the guard and was “adamant” that he had not spat at her.
Orange County court records show McKin posted bail the next morning and was released. He was charged with “assault on a security officer,” which is a third degree felony. At the time of writing, the court file did not include an attorney who could speak for McKin.
According to records cited by The Orlando Sentinel, Disney workers have faced harassment over coronavirus safety regulations at their parks. The newspaper, citing a Disney spokeswoman, reported in early March that “a handful of visitors had been arrested in recent weeks” for reactions related to mask requirements or for refusing to have their temperatures taken.
