A New Jersey Air Force captain, Kelliann Leli, was killed in a car accident at a base in the United Arab Emirates, the Defense Department said Saturday.

Capt (Dr.) Kelliann Leli, of Parlin City, Middlesex County, was killed Friday in an “unrelated combat vehicle incident” at Al Dhafra Air Base, authorities said.
Leli was a medic who had worked with the 60th Medical Operations Squadron at Travis Air Force Base in California.
The captain was also assigned to the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing.
Leli’s teammates remembered her as a great doctor who was always a team player.
“Our entire Travis family is beyond heartbroken over the tragic loss of our teammate, Kelliann,” Colonel Corey Simmons, 60 Air Mobility Wing commander, said in a statement.
“We think and pray for all of your loved ones during this unfathomable time.”
“Our Al Dhafra family mourns the tragic loss of Captain Kelliann Leli,” Brig said. General Larry Broadwell, commander of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, said in a statement.
“She was an exceptional nurse, officer, and teammate here, and her incredible presence will be greatly missed.
Authorities said the incident was under investigation.
