Julia Barnhill Letlow Biography
Julia Barnhill Letlow is the wife of Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, who is reported to have died on December 29, 2020 from COVID-19. According to Politico, Letlow is the first member of Congress (or elected congressman) to die from COVID-19. She was a Republican who was only days away from taking office.
She has a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of South Florida, an MA in Speech Communication, and a BA in Speech Communication from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where she was at Kappa Delta Sorority and ran track and field.
Julia is an “Executive Assistant to the President of External Affairs and Community Outreach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe,” according to her LinkedIn page. She describes her work as providing “strategy, vision and oversight at the executive level to improve the external affairs and community outreach of the university. Report directly to the president and form part of its Executive Council and the Administrative Staff Council. Represent the university with members of Congress, federal, state, and local government officials, governors, parish presidents, school superintendents, and mayors; including establishing and maintaining relationships with officials at all levels of government and their staff. ”
Prior to that, she was Executive Director of External Affairs and Strategic Communications and Director of Marketing and Communications at the same university. She was previously the Director of Education, Director of Resident Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, and Clinical Instructor at Tulane University in New Orleans.
She was an advocate, a special projects coordinator at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and an associate professor at the University of South Florida and the University of Louisiana Monroe.
The couple have two young children and both Letlows pasted their social media accounts with photos of their young family.
Jeremy, Julia’s brother, died in a car accident as a teenager. On LinkedIn, Julia wrote that she serves as president of the Jeremy Barnhill Foundation for Christian Teens. The group’s Instagram page describes it as saying, “The Jeremy Barnhill Foundation exists to connect the next generation with God by sponsoring young people to attend Christian events.”
Luke Letlow Cause of death
Letlow announced her diagnosis on December 18, tweeting: “Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am at home resting, following all CDC guidelines, quarantine protocols, and my doctors’ recommendations. ”
Andrew Bautsch, a representative for Letlow, confirmed Letlow’s death to WDSU-TV. He told the television channel that the congressman-elect died on December 29 in the hospital and that the cause of death was “due to complications from COVID-19.”
“Letlow was admitted to a Monroe Hospital on December 19 after testing positive for the coronavirus and was transferred to Ochsner-LSU Health on Tuesday, December 22 and placed in intensive care,” the statement to WDSU read.
Letlow thanked supporters for their prayers and revealed that her husband was in stable condition just two days before he took a turn for the worse and tragically died of COVID-19. “Thank you all for your continued prayers and good wishes,” wrote Julia Barnhill Letlow on Facebook.
On December 21, Luke Letlow posted this statement on Twitter: “Thank you for the continued outpouring of prayers and support for my family and me. I am currently receiving treatment for COVID-19 at St. Francis Hospital from a wonderful team of doctors and nurses. I am sure that, with your help, I will recover soon. ”
He added: “For those who have already had Covid, your plasma is especially needed for those who are suffering. I cannot stress this enough. Consider saving lives by going out and donating at your local blood bank. It is quite possible that it is the gift of the life you are giving to a family this Christmas. “
