Josiah Colt, a 34-year-old man who runs a digital marketing company in Boise, Idaho, is among those who apologized in the wake of the violent siege after he was identified as the troublemaker hanging from the balcony. He had not been arrested until Friday morning.
The infamous image of him hanging from the balcony after Trump supporters made their way onto Capitol Hill quickly went viral around the world as the chaotic scenes unfolded.
Colt, who bragged on social media after the uproar saying ‘I’m all over the news’, says he caused no harm and claims that he told other protesters that the camera was ‘a holy place’.

Shortly after jumping from the balcony onto the Senate floor, Colt was photographed standing on the dais inside the Senate chamber where witnesses say he yelled, ‘Trump won that election!’
“I love America, I love the people, I didn’t hurt anyone and I didn’t cause any harm in the House,” Colt said in a statement obtained by CBS2 News.
‘He caught Me in the moment and when I saw the door to the Chamber open, I went in, jumped up and sat on the chair. I said my peace and then helped a gentleman to safety who got hurt and then left.
“While I was in the Chamber, I told the other protesters that this is a holy place and that they should not do any harm. Some wanted to destroy the place and steal things, but I told them not to do it and to leave everything in its place. We are still on sacred ground.
And I sincerely apologize to the American people. I acknowledge my actions that have embarrassed myself, my family, my friends, and my beautiful country. At the time I thought I was doing the right thing.
‘I now realize that my actions were appropriate and I apologize to the United States and my home state of Idaho. My intention was not to stain the democratic process of our great country ”.
Colt has not been arrested for the site, but he said he is speaking with an attorney.
‘I was arrested for the first time in my life and charged with unlawful entry.
“ My decision to enter the Capitol was wrong and I deeply regret that I did. Unreservedly and as a peaceful and law-abiding citizen, he condemns the violence and destruction that took place in Washington.
‘I offer my sincere apologies for my indiscretion and deeply regret that my actions have embarrassed my family, colleagues, friends and compatriots.
“It was the worst personal decision of my life; I have no excuse for my actions and I wish I could withdraw them. ‘
His company, Cogensia, tweeted a statement after Rukstales’ involvement in the siege became known, saying that he had been put on leave.
