Who is Jose Ruiz Gutierrez ?

Four men were arrested after a man was killed outside a Hollywood restaurant in what Los Angeles police describe as an armed robbery.

Police say the trend sees suspects targeting victims in prime locations before following them home to an isolated area to rob them.

On this occasion, José Ruiz Gutiérrez, 23, was shot dead in front of the Brazilian restaurant Bossa Nova on Sunset Boulevard at 2 a.m. November 23.

Gutiérrez was waiting in his car outside the restaurant to pick up takeout when the woman he was with was approached by a group of men and was the victim of a robbery.

He is 23 year old.

Arrested and Charged

Gutiérrez, who was carrying a pistol, got out of the car to intervene but the suspects shot him first and killed him on the sidewalk.

After hearing the shots, staff, customers and security guards rushed out of the restaurant to witness the tragic scene.

“I heard a lot of gunshots,” a man who did not want to be named told CBSLA. ‘I couldn’t count how many. And then I heard a scream. This girl was constantly yelling “help”. Down the stairs, the guy is lying in front of the car. I check his pulse. Maybe he could do something, but he had too many headshots. So there was nothing he could do. ‘

Jayon Sanders and Joshua Saulsberry, both 21, and Abraham Castillo and Tyree Singleton, both 20, were arrested during a series of police raids Tuesday morning.

All four were arrested. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Sanders, Castillo and Singleton with murder, robbery and attempted robbery, the LAPD said. They are being held on bail of more than $ 2 million.

Saulsberry is charged with theft, on a $ 160,000 bond.

During the raids, authorities recovered several items including a Rolex watch, wallets, gang paraphernalia, pistols and replicas, two cars that were used during the alleged crimes, and more than $ 30,000 in cash.

Victims

Los Angeles police say home burglaries are becoming increasingly popular and the Department has established a dedicated task force to investigate crimes that often turn violent.

Hot spots like Jewelry District and Melrose Avenue have been targeted by thieves as places where many of the crimes seem to start when victims are followed from expensive restaurants or nightclubs to their homes.

Watches, jewelry, cash and other valuables are stolen at gunpoint from victims.

Investigation

Los Angeles police are investigating 150 burglaries and similar crimes.

LAPD chief Michel Moore said people shouldn’t try to protect their property when faced with thieves.

“There is no jewelery or property that they have that is worth their life, so if they are in such a dangerous situation, to cooperate, be a good witness. … Don’t chase people, don’t try to chase people and don’t try to take action yourself other than to minimize the possibility that you will be a victim of the kind of violence we saw here, ‘.
