Jordan De Goey of Collingwood has been arrested in New York and charged over allegedly groping a woman

Collingwood’s player and friend, Luke Dyson, was arrested in New York around 2:20 a.m. local time Saturday.

Dyson allegedly responded by hitting the man in the face with a glass bottle, splitting his lip.

De Goey reportedly joined the riot before he and Dyson returned to the bar.

The woman called 911 for the US emergency services and the police arrived to arrest the couple and charge them with assault and physical contact.

The NYPD said the parties involved in the incident were not previously known and were intoxicated.

Police said the 37-year-old man suffered pain and swelling in his lips and body, and that the 35-year-old woman was distraught but not physically injured.

Both the man and the woman reportedly refused medical care.

De Goey was allowed to leave Australia on a permit due to his sponsorship of the Monster Energy soft drink company.

Statement

A statement released by the Collingwood soccer club on Sunday morning said it had not yet spoken to De Goey about the incident.

Collingwood is aware of a report involving Jordan De Goey. The club is trying to contact Jordan, who is in the United States, to determine the facts of the matter, ‘he said.

“The club will not be in a position to comment further until he has done so.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the club for more information.

The Herald Sun reported that Collingwood was not aware of the incident until it was reported in New York.

If there is an integrity incident involving the police, AFL players are expected to immediately contact their club about it.

The AFL released a statement on the matter Sunday morning after hearing it from Collingwood.wikipedia

“The AFL has been contacted by Collingwood Football Club and has learned of a report involving player Jordan De Goey, who is currently overseas,” he said.

Collingwood is trying to contact Jordan for more information. The AFL Integrity Department will look into the matter once more information is obtained, until then the AFL is not in a position to comment at this stage. ‘

Two months ago, De Goey was criticized by a judge after he was fined more than $ 2,000 for driving offenses.

The Collingwood forward avoided conviction and his license suspension, despite pleading guilty to driving offenses dating back to 2019.

Incidents

These included driving without displaying P plates, driving while suspended, using a mobile phone while operating a stationary vehicle, failing to carry the license to a specific location, speeding, and driving a prohibited vehicle for a trial license.

“He pleads guilty, which is indicative of remorse and understanding of his crime,” said the magistrate.

“ If Mr. de Goey drove safely in the first place, he would not have accumulated enough demerit points to see his license suspended on March 20, 2019 for a period of three months. ”

The magistrate also warned De Goey that he will re-suspend his license if more driving violations occur, NewsWire NCA reported.

The charges stemmed from four incidents, including two in 2019 and another in February 2020, before De Goey was caught speeding to 93 km / h in an 80 km / h zone on the Nepean Highway in southeast Melbourne in last december.

The court heard that the police discovered that the P-plater was not allowed to drive the sports car and did not have his P plates in view.

De Goey told police the car was not his and the other vehicle had P plates, the court heard.

The AFL star was caught texting on his mobile phone while he was stopped at traffic lights in South Yarra in July 2019, while his license was suspended due to accumulated demerit points.

He was also arrested in February 2020 for failing to display P plates while riding a motorcycle.

De Goey had a separate sexual assault charge dropped in August, where police were ordered to pay his legal costs.

The alleged 2015 incident was investigated by the AFL’s integrity unit in 2018 and referred to the police.

Police took until July last year to charge the star footballer, who was in central Queensland at the time.
